Have you ever wondered what a day at beauty school looks like? Maybe you are about to start and want to know what to expect. At this Winnipeg Beauty School, each day is a mix of hands-on learning, new skills, and fun moments with classmates. From theory lessons to practicing on live models, you will experience a journey that is both exciting and rewarding.
So what does a typical day look like?

Mornings: Learning the Science of Beauty
Your week starts on Tuesdays and the day starts with theory—because before you can master hands-on skills, you need to understand the science behind them. You will learn about skin anatomy (and or nail structure), product ingredients, and safety protocols, setting a strong foundation for your career.
But it’s not just reading and lectures. Educator Mel keeps things interactive. “I like to mix things up and help anchor knowledge with fun games,” she explains. “Those team Jeopardy and Kahoot quizzes get lively!” These challenges make learning fun and help you retain what you need to know before moving on to practical skills.
Between lessons, you get a mid-morning break—a perfect time to grab a coffee, check your phone, and chat with classmates before diving back into the next topic.
Lunch break gives you a chance to reset before the afternoon’s hands-on training starts.

Afternoon: Hands-On Training Begins
Once you have covered the basics, it is time to put your knowledge into action. Afternoon hands-on training sessions typically begin a few weeks into your program. First, you will practice on your classmates. Whether it is a facial, a manicure, or lash extensions, you will experience both sides of the service—giving and receiving treatments. This helps you understand not just how to perform the service, but what the client feels.
If a treatment includes precision techniques that require more repetition to master—such as nail extensions or lash applications—you will also get access to additional practice on mannequins.

Friday: Working with Live Models
+ 1 Saturday a month
After mastering treatments on classmates, you will start working on models. These can be friends, family, or even members of the public looking for beauty treatments at a fraction of spa prices.
Your first few models might be people you already know, which can help ease first-time nerves. “I find that when we reach this point, it makes it a bit easier the first time if it is a friend or family member,” Mel shares. “That being said, you do want to practice what real life will be like by offering services to strangers, too.”

Build Your Brand Now and Practice Growing a Client Base
Now is also the time to start building your personal brand. Posting model calls on your social media beauty student account helps fill your practice appointments and starts attracting potential clients. Mel encourages students to think ahead:
“When you work in a spa, you will experience more success if you have a personal esthetician brand. Even if your spa has a marketing strategy, clients also want to relate to a person, not just a business. Start now with a dedicated account by sharing your student journey and growing your audience.”
Plus, if you tag the school account as a student, we’ll repost your model calls, giving you access to an audience of thousands! This will make it much easier for you to acquire the models you need.
That’s not all: Students who create a dedicated beauty account while still in school find it easier to transition into their career. By the time you graduate, you often have already started to build a client base that follows you wherever you go to eventually apprentice if they know where to find you (aka: if they started following your account while you were in school).

Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead
Your schedule varies depending on where you are in your training. Tuesdays through Thursdays focus on learning and practicing different skills, while Fridays (and some Saturdays) are typically dedicated to perfecting what you are most confident in on models.
As you continue, you will refine both your technical and soft skills—things like time management, client interaction, and even self-marketing. These are just as important as the beauty techniques themselves.
One of the best parts? Beauty school is genuinely fun. “I have noticed something,” Mel says. “When we are learning theory, multiple breaks are important to stay refreshed and engaged. But when we reach hands-on practice, my students have so much fun that they hardly take their extra breaks at all!”
Your Journey Starts Here
Every day at a Winnipeg Beauty School is different, but they all have one thing in common: You will learn, grow, and gain real experience that prepares you for the beauty industry.
Whether you dream of working in a high-end spa, freelancing once licensed, or even opening your own business in the future, the skills you build here will set the foundation for your future.
