Where will my hands-on laser training take place?
Your hands-on laser training takes place at Total Wrapture Medi Spa, located at 2255 Ness Avenue—not at our St. James Street academy.
With over 20 years of presence in the community and a reputation as a leader in laser innovation (we were the first to introduce many cutting-edge laser modalities to Manitoba!), Total Wrapture offers you an immersive, real-world medi spa experience.
You’ll train alongside experienced laser technicians who work with a diverse range of clients daily, giving you practical insights, confidence with all skin tones and ages, and the latest treatment techniques directly from the treatment room.
While diploma programs and some specialty courses are delivered at our St. James location, your laser practicum takes you right into the clinic from the start.

Your theory modules are completed online through flexible, self-paced learning with quizzes and chapter tests. Once you finish your theory, you’ll move on to in-clinic, hands-on training with us.
Do I need prior certification (prerequisites) to enroll?
Before enrolling in the Laser Level 2 course, you must complete Laser Level 1 (Laser Hair Removal Course). This foundational training ensures you have a solid understanding of:
- Skin safety and anatomy
- Light-based treatment science
- Proper device handling and protocols
- Laser Hair Removal
These core skills are essential for safely progressing into more advanced laser and IPL treatments taught in Level 2.
If you have not taken Laser Level 1, enroll in our Laser Technician Program which covers both levels.
What treatments will I learn to perform?
You’ll be trained in:
- IPL photofacials
- Fractional laser resurfacing for wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation
- Laser tattoo removal
- Theory/Demonstration: RF skin tightening and body contouring
Will I practice on real people?
Yes! You’ll perform treatments on real clients under the supervision of experienced educators right here in Winnipeg.
More on that:
Our laser courses now offer more in-clinic, hands-on training than ever before—giving you time to practice every laser and IPL modality on real people. Under the guidance of experienced laser technicians, you’ll begin at low energy levels and gradually increase intensity as your confidence and skill grow.
This additional hands-on experience on people is essential for developing true expertise. It helps you feel comfortable with the devices, adapt your technique to different skin types and conditions, and troubleshoot in real time.
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of treatment planning, client communication, and how to deliver safe, effective, and stunning results. The more real-world practice you have, the more prepared you’ll be to walk into your first laser service—with skill and confidence.
How long is the program?
Laser Level 2 is designed to be completed in 4 weeks.
Is there a certification?
Yes, upon successful completion of both theory and practicum, you’ll receive a Wrapture Beauty Academy Certificate.
What career options does this program open up?
Graduates can work in medi-spas, dermatology clinics, laser centers, or offer advanced services in salons.
It’s also a great opportunity for estheticians, skin technicians, and other beauty professionals in Winnipeg to advance their careers and boost their earning potential by offering cutting-edge skin rejuvenation treatments.
Why is laser such a fast-growing field?
With rising demand for non-invasive treatments, laser services like tattoo removal, hair reduction, and skin rejuvenation are increasingly popular across all ages and genders.
There is no other treatment as powerful for resurfacing the skin:
While injectables like Botox target muscle movement, fillers change volume, and surgery lifts sagging skin, laser resurfacing directly improves skin texture and tone at a cellular level.
Chemical peels and microneedling are great for addressing milder concerns or for maintenance, but laser remains unmatched for deep, long-lasting renewal.
Esthetic mindsets like glass skin—along with others such as skin minimalism, and the pursuit of ageless beauty—have gained popularity thanks to social media and the visibility of celebrities with radiant, youthful skin.
This, combined with a growing public understanding of skin care and major advancements in technology, has made laser and other advanced skin-beautifying treatments more accessible in Winnipeg, further fueling demand for these services.
How does Fractional Laser Resurfacing work?
Fractional laser resurfacing uses a laser to deliver microscopic columns of heat—called microchannels—deep into the skin. These micro-injuries are tiny and controlled, but your body treats them as damage and immediately shifts into repair mode.
This healing response is what stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, two essential building blocks of youthful skin.
- Collagen is like a dense net made of strong ropes woven throughout your skin. It gives your face its firmness, structure, and smooth surface. As we age, our skin slows down collagen production. With fewer “ropes,” skin becomes thinner and starts forming fine lines and wrinkles.
- Elastin is what gives your skin its “snap back.” It’s the stretchy material that lets your skin return to its normal shape after you smile, frown, laugh, or squint. When elastin breaks down, skin becomes looser and starts “remembering” those facial movements—eventually turning them into static wrinkles.
Fractional laser stimulates your skin to rebuild both collagen and elastin. Over a series of treatments, this leads to:
- Firmer, thicker skin
- Smoother texture and reduced roughness
- Softening of acne scars, surgical scars, and stretch marks
- Fading of dark spots and pigmentation
- A more even, glowing, refreshed skin tone
Most clients require a starting treatment plan of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, with maintenance as desired to retain clarity and glow that is slowly eroded by natural skin aging and environmental exposure.
You’ll learn how to evaluate skin conditions, plan treatment courses, and monitor results effectively using before-and-after photos—something clients love and that often leads to return visits or interest in treating new areas.
Why is the demand for laser treatments on the rise?
Laser treatments are powerful tools for reducing scars, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation—helping restore glow, clarity and confidence.
But beyond corrective benefits, laser (or laser combined with radiofrequency—more on RF below) is also the secret behind the radiant, smooth, and “glass skin” look many celebrities strive for. As these technologies become more accessible, more people in Winnipeg are turning to them to maintain firm, clear, dewy skin and rejuvenate their appearance.
How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?
You will train here in Winnipeg on PicoSure by Cynosure Lutronics, one of the most advanced tattoo removal lasers available. It uses picosecond pulses (a trillionth of a second) to shatter ink into tiny particles your body can naturally eliminate through lymphatic flushing. As new skin cells rise to the surface, the tattoo fades further with each treatment.
Unlike older nanosecond lasers, PicoSure works faster and is better at clearing dark, colourful, or stubborn tattoos with fewer treatments and less discomfort.
Clients seek tattoo removal to:
- Erase unwanted tattoos
- Fade old ink for a cover-up
- Remove tattoos that no longer reflect their style
As tattoos become more popular across all ages and body areas, the demand for tattoo removal is growing right alongside them—and you’ll get real-world experience performing removal on real people who come in for laser tattoo removal.
What is the science behind laser tattoo removal?
- Ultra-Short Pulses: The PicoSure laser emits energy in ultra-short pulses, measured in picoseconds (trillionths of a second). These precise bursts target the tattooed area efficiently.
- Ink Fragmentation: The rapid energy delivery shatters the ink particles into tiny fragments.
- Natural Elimination: Your body’s immune system identifies the fragmented ink as foreign and gradually eliminates it by flushing the ink particles out through your lymphatic system. After each treatment/healing is complete, the tattoo fades further.
- Up to 6 Sessions Required: Complete removal typically requires multiple sessions, often up to six, spaced several weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on the tattoo’s size, colour, and depth, along with individual skin factors.
Post-Treatment:
After each session, your client’s skin goes through a natural cycle that lasts about four weeks. During this time, old skin cells are replaced by new ones. This cycle allows the tattoo to fade as newer skin cells hold fewer ink particles.
We space treatments about 8-12 weeks apart, allowing for 2-3 complete skin cycles before assessing the results of the previous session and adjusting settings for the next treatment. This ensures we target the most accurate endpoint of the last treatment’s effects. Because everyone’s skin regenerates at different speeds, some may need up to 3 skin cycles (12 weeks) to show final results.
Your goal is to achieve maximum fading with minimal sessions by balancing optimal laser energy and proper healing time.
What is an IPL Photofacial, and what does it treat?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses broad-spectrum light to treat surface-level skin issues such as:
- Sunspots and age spots
- Redness, broken capillaries, and rosacea
- Uneven skin tone
IPL energy is absorbed by melanin and hemoglobin, heating and eliminating pigment or vascular issues without damaging surrounding tissue.
Clients typically need 3–5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, and many enjoy longer-lasting results or treat newly formed problem areas with a few maintenance treatments.
How does laser compare to Botox and fillers for rejuvenation?
You do not have to choose between laser, Botox, or fillers—because they each do very different things and often complement one another.
- Botox (and similar neuromodulators): Reduces facial muscle movement to soften expression lines and help prevent them from deepening too quickly.
- Fillers: Restores lost volume (or adds new volume), including contour shape.
- Laser: Improves the surface of your skin—boosting texture, tone, and glow by stimulating collagen. Unlike Botox or fillers, which affect muscles or volume, laser enhances skin quality and clarity and helps products absorb better.
In fact, many people who use injectables also choose laser treatments as part of their routine to maintain youthful, glowing skin.
A common approach is to book laser sessions either before their next Botox appointment or wait about two weeks after, allowing each treatment to do its best work.
Courses to Consider After This One
A great add-on for those interested in the cosmetic side of beauty. These courses require no skin or esthetics background and are ideal for building a well-rounded skill set in semi-permanent makeup services like microblading, lip blush, or microshading—perfect for those who enjoy precision work and visible results.
A no-prerequisite skill that fits seamlessly into any beauty professional’s toolkit. Quick to learn and in high demand, it’s an easy way to boost your service offerings and income potential—especially for those working in medi spas, salons, or mobile beauty businesses.
Love all things skin, beauty, and skincare? For those wanting to deepen their understanding of skin and launch a full career in skin beauty, the Skin Care Technician Program pairs perfectly with laser training.
